Frances Jones
How were you first introduced to yoga?
I went to a class at Integral in NYC
What made you decide to move beyond being a student to become a teacher?
One of my teachers— Dana Trixie Flynn of Laughing Lotus — told me I should become a teacher. At that point I had only been practicing for a year or two so it was a surprise.
What were you doing before you taught yoga?
Same thing I’m doing now—running my media training business: Cole Media Management.
How has your yoga practice changed since you began?
Despite the belief that Ashtanga is the same thing day after day, my practice changes all the time! The beauty of the Ashtanga system is that these changes are measurable because the poses “change” as your body changes.
Is there a particular aspect of yoga you are especially intrigued with right now?
I heard recently that the psoas muscle is the nostril of the pelvis. I am now obsessed with this idea.
What else have you studied in depth?
Communication— both verbal and non-verbal.
What are some o your other practice or passions?
I practice Transcendental meditation.
When you really need grounding what do you do?
Walk my dogs and/or take a hot bath.
